Corbett Lyon is one of the Founding Directors of Lyons and a lead Design Director of the studio. He is one of Australia’s most awarded design practitioners and brings over 30 years experience and expertise to the design of complex, high-stakes, major public buildings and public precincts.
Corbett has earned a reputation across the globe as a thought-leader in human-centred design in architecture, with a demonstrated ability to deliver public sector designs that optimise outcomes for project stakeholders and communities. His projects routinely interrogate traditional design and use space to deliver activated places that help people heal faster, learn better and more genuinely engage with one another.
Corbett’s outcomes are informed by an innovative, people-first approach in tandem with deep client and stakeholder engagement through Lyons’ facilitated client stakeholder workshops, pioneered by Corbett himself. The projects Corbett has led and co-led have won Lyons a plethora of awards—delivering a more than outstanding value-for-money solution for clients.
Within the studio Corbett shares his breadth of experience by providing design and stakeholder leadership across major projects in the cultural, health, institutional, research and urban design fields. Amongst future architects and his contemporaries, Corbett is a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne and in 2009 was appointed a Visiting Professor in Architectural Design in the University’s Melbourne School of Design. He is one of Australia’s leading collectors and commentators on contemporary Australian art and has participated in numerous forums on contemporary art and architecture in Australia and overseas. He is a Trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria and a Life Member of the Australian Institute of Architects.
